SAN DIEGO, CA — The ballot question adopted by the San Diego City Council for a measure set to go before voters in March that imposes a new tax to expand the convention center runs afoul of California election laws that require the summary to be a true, impartial and transparent synopsis of the measure, according to a lawsuit filed by voters.

San Diego, CA -  Today, November 4, 2019, the San Diego City Council voted 5-4 to put a potentially unlawful ballot question before voters that would finance the expansion of the San Diego Convention Center, among other things. The ballot measure would authorize the city to both impose a tax and issue bonds. However, the ballot question does not include significant details that are relevant to voters and required by law. 

SAN DIEGO, CA — Alec, the first refugee granted asylum after being forced to remain in Mexico under the “Migrant Protection Protocols”, was released from the San Ysidro Port of Entry into the United States, thanks to the support and advocacy from organizations such as Human Rights First and Alliance San Diego, as well as local faith leaders. 

San Diego, California — On Tuesday, in San Diego, the first individual forced to remain in Mexico under the “Migrant Protection Protocols” was granted asylum based on his status as a persecuted Evangelical Christian church leader in Honduras. Despite this grant of asylum from an immigration judge, the individual—who is represented by Human Rights First and goes by the name Alec—has been threatened with return to Mexico by the U.S. government. 

SAN DIEGO, CA — Today, the Supreme Court ruled to temporarily strike the Trump Administration’s addition of a question regarding citizenship from the 2020 Census. With a 5-4 vote, The Supreme Court’s ruling invalidated the administration’s justification for adding the question citing the official explanation “seems to have been contrived.”
