Alliance San Diego Statement on Poway Synagogue Shooting

SAN DIEGO, CA — Today, on the last day of Passover, a gunman killed one person and injured several others at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in what authorities are describing as a hate crime.

Alliance San Diego extends its deepest condolences to the victims of the shooting, their families, and the Jewish community at large, and has issued the following statement:

“We mourn the loss of life and deeply condemn this hateful act of antisemitism and violence.  Hate is devastating and has taken a heavy toll on our community. We will not allow hatred, bigotry, racism, nor antisemitism to tear our communities asunder. Instead, we stand together, in love and unity. Love is powerful, and through love, we will continue to assist and heal in the face of this terrible act. As the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said:

‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.’”
