Letter to Mayor Faulconer Concerning City Employee Furloughs

On Monday, April 6, Mayor Kevin Faulconer furloughed approximately 800 city employees due to COVID-19. Under this furlough, only full-time workers are entitled to up to two weeks of paid sick leave for a COVID-19 related reason, otherwise they must use their vacation to be paid. Full-time workers may qualify for ten additional partially-paid weeks classified as family or medical leave for a COVID-19 related school closure. 

Andrea Guerrero, executive director of Alliance San Diego, wrote a letter to Mayor Faulconer, urging him to reconsider the furloughs and work toward a more inclusive and just plan of action. Read the letter below.
