Alliance San Diego is a community-based human rights organization whose mission is to build collective power to create a more inclusive democracy. In its first fifteen years, Alliance San Diego has worked on education, immigration, policing, healthcare, tax and budget equity, and other issues. Though the issues we work on might change, our mission remains the same: build collective power to create an inclusive democracy. From changes in public discourse to changes in public policy, we have worked to ensure that community members are part of the decision-making that affects them.

We are seeking a Civic Engagement Organizer to build on our success in community and electoral organizing and position us for future success through expanding our outreach, education, and training. Reporting directly to the Civic Engagement Director and working closely with the civic engagement team, the Civic Engagement Organizer will work to achieve short-term and long-term civic engagement goals in alignment with the mission and vision of Alliance San Diego. The Civic Engagement Organizer will also work with the community and local/statewide coalitions.

A strong candidate will have experience in canvassing, grassroots organizing, and working with coalitions. The abilities to lead training and communicate effectively with diverse community members are strongly desired. This position will implement strategies, field plans, and tactics to achieve the greatest success. The ideal candidate will have electoral field experience, effective leadership qualities, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Primary Responsibilities

The Civic Engagement Organizer will report to the Civic Engagement Director and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Organize community and stakeholder participation in civic engagement activities to advance the priorities of Alliance San Diego.
  • Provide support to the Civic Engagement Department in conducting seasonal civic engagement programs during and between elections.
  • Identify, build relationships, and act as liaison to community groups, coalitions, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Work with the Civic Engagement Department to help conduct leadership training of community members.
  • Help design and facilitate community events, and maintain outreach data.
 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associates degree (or higher) or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in electoral, civic engagement, or political campaigns, with some relevant connection to community, labor, or other non-candidate politics
  • Basic knowledge of local, state and federal and elected officials
  • Experience in grassroots and/or community organizing
  • Experience reporting and tracking results
  • Experience in advocating for policies that impact communities of color, low-income and immigrant communities
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with political data, latest technologies, and best practices in the field
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights issues and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and working families

The Civic Engagement Organizer position is offered as an hourly position at a rate of $28.85 to $30.77 (the equivalent of $60,000 to $64,000 a year for full-time work), depending on experience. We offer competitive pay increases based on annual performance reviews, competitive benefits, and a collaborative work environment with colleagues who are dedicated to human rights.
