SAN DIEGO, CA - March 08, 2022 — Alliance San Diego is energized and excited to welcome Dr. Lamont A. Jackson as the next Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District. We look forward to working with Dr. Jackson and the extended community of students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to help shape the future of our public schools.
The selection process for the Superintendent began in March 2021 when the Board of Education created the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee and embarked on a national search for the role. Christopher Rice-Wilson, Alliance San Diego’s associate director, served as the chair of the 48-member advisory committee charged with convening a robust and transparent selection process with deliberative community engagement to inform the final decision of the Board of Education.
The advisory committee facilitated 34 virtual and in-person town halls, community meetings and listening sessions to ensure the Board of Education received the direct input of the community. Ultimately, the engagement process generated significant and impactful public discussion and feedback, which led to a unanimous vote by the school board to select Dr. Jackson.
Dr. Jackson is a product of San Diego public schools and serves as a hopeful reminder of what makes San Diego a unique community. His achievement is a reflection of the change that we all seek for all communities. It also serves as a reminder that our work is not done. We will partner with Dr. Jackson in continuing to acknowledge the needs of our schools, ensuring that we create inclusive environments for all students to thrive, and preparing our students for success.

Thank you to the highly successful pool of candidates who applied for this position and validated the public process that got us here today. I am very proud to have been a part of the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee and the work done with transparency and collaboration as keys to our success. It was a long and deliberative process with lots of community input and partnership along the way. I am hopeful that many of the changes we instituted within the district for community engagement will remain in place and lead to more successful outcomes for students, families and the region.
Dr. Jackson is a homegrown talent and success story and has earned the role of Superintendent and the respect of the SDUSD community through this process. I look forward to partnering with him and his team to lead the district into the next era of achievement and make public education the most viable option for students in our region!
