San Diegans joined the rest of the country in voting in record numbers on local, state and national candidates, ballot initiatives and issues
SAN DIEGO, CA — Showing up in record numbers despite a pandemic that has ravaged the country, San Diego voters joined the rest of the nation in participating in the 2020 Presidential Election. Former Vice President Joe Biden has won the presidential election, beating Donald Trump in a record election turnout and winning critical battleground states.
Meanwhile in San Diego and across California, voters who were determined to make their voices heard and their votes counted are now ready to turn the page and fight for a future that belongs to all of us. Expanding our democracy and achieving bold, structural reform isn’t about one proposition or one election. It’s about creating a seat at the table for all people, and ensuring that all voices are heard.
Christopher Rice-Wilson, associate director of Alliance San Diego, said:
“Voters have spoken and said that it is time to end a divisive era in our country. It’s time to rebuild our nation for everyone, a nation where each and every one of us is treated with dignity and respect. Alliance San Diego is proud of what we’ve accomplished this election season — an electorate that looks more like San Diego and shows up in full force to make the change necessary for a San Diego where all people can reach their full potential. Through Alliance San Diego’s civic engagement work, we’ve helped expand our electorate to better reflect the full diversity of our region, and that’s something to celebrate. The election results prove that when WE VOTE, and come together — regardless of where we come from — we have the power to do what’s right for San Diego.”
