Art has always had a place in making change and the struggle for justice. Few things speak to present and future generations more powerfully and vividly than art.
That's why Alliance San Diego and American Friends Service Committee have sponsored the painting of a mural memorializing the life of Anastasio Hernández Rojas, a longtime resident of San Diego who was brutally beaten and killed by border agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, in May of 2010. To this day, not a single border agent has been held accountable for his death, but the fight for justice continues for all of the families who have died at the hands of border agents.
The mural was completed in September of 2020. Click here to read our press release about its completion.
Led by master muralist Victor Ochoa, local community artists painted the mural on the 50-foot tall pillars that hold up the Coronado Bridge.
