Fundraiser for Anastasio's Mural
When it comes to memorializing the most important stories of our time, few things speak to present and future generations more powerfully and vividly than art. That’s why today we are asking you to help us raise funds to paint a mural honoring the life of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas, a longtime resident of San Diego who was brutally beaten, shot with a Taser and killed by border agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, on May 28, 2010. To this day, not a single border agent has been held accountable for his death. But the family of Anastasio continues the fight and is leading the way in the pursuit of justice for all families.
Alliance San Diego is teaming up with American Friends Service Committee and Anastasio’s family to raise the $10,000 needed to paint his mural in a local San Diego neighborhood park. We are commissioning renowned chicano park muralist and activist Victor Ochoa, to tell the story of Anastasio and others who have died at the hands of border patrol. By telling his story, we will ensure that future generations know the dangers of militarizing our border communities with walls and unaccountable agents that separate and destroy families.
