Open Letter to the Community: Illuminating the Path to Dignity
As the new President transitions into power, fear and anxiety are high. The incoming President has issued a slew of fear-mongering executive orders on day one, including ones that attempt to drive out immigrants and shut down the border. As people who live in the border region, we understand what these actions mean for our families and communities — threats to our ability to go to school, go to work, come home to our families, and visit neighbors in Tijuana. We also understand that these threats have always been present with an inhumane enforcement regime that never truly went away. We as Alliance San Diego will face this moment not in panic, but in purpose, knowing how important it is to discern rhetoric from reality. We will face the future grounded and steadfast in our dignity, and together, we will rise with the community we love, ready to boldly use the tools of democracy to fight for and protect the human rights of everyone.
