We’re closing off our “I Have a Voice” Annual Giving campaign with a bang! Alliance San Diego board member, Rosalind Winstead, who is also the CEO of Winstead & Company has pledged to match your donations for today only to help us reach our goal of $50,000 by May 1st.

In a recent Q&A session, Rosalind Winstead shared her passion for Alliance San Diego and why she is doubling your contribution.

See what Rosalind had to say below:

Q: Why did you decide to become a board member of Alliance San Diego?

A: I was invited to the board by Ashley Walker and Andrea Guerrero after working in various advocacy initiatives with them.  I knew that both of these women were long-time activists and committed to the cause of helping our community.  We also had a shared interested in continuing the All Peoples Celebration as a way to unite our communities and continue to honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The invitation to join the Board of Alliance San Diego was an honor and I am still grateful for the opportunity to this day.

Q: What are the issues that you care about the most and why?

A: We have been able to reach a large number of people through our civic engagement programs who were skeptical about their power as voters and the importance of using their voice to affect real, measurable change in the community.  I think that ensuring that all people can take part in the democratic process is one of the most important issues Alliance San Diego champions.

Alliance San Diego also works to increase the visibility and scope of progressive thinking in San Diego and through our advocacy and leadership development, I have noticed a marked improvement in democracy in our city since I moved here more than 27 years ago.

Q: What are one or two of the most impactful things Alliance San Diego has done?

A: As mentioned before, I am very proud of the civic engagement programs and advocacy that Alliance San Diego takes part in.  Passing ballot measures K & L really puts the power back into the hands of the citizens and ensures that democracy is alive and well in our city.

When Alliance San Diego decided to continue the All Peoples Celebration they committed to ensuring the legacy of Dr. King continues to live in San Diego. The celebration unites the community and celebrates the multitude of cultures that shapes our collective experience.

Q: Why do you think people should donate to Alliance San Diego?

A: People should donate because Alliance San Diego are the leaders in civic engagement programs in San Diego.  Their donation gives voice to the people who feel they are disenfranchised by the democratic process and it empowers the community by training leaders. A donation to Alliance San Diego helps distribute power and influence evenly throughout the community.

Q: What is the one thing people should know about Alliance San Diego and the work it does?

A: Alliance San Diego is a think tank for progressive change and thought.  It engages and uses technology and research in working toward real change in the community.  Alliance San Diego has a visionary leader in Andrea Guerrero who has a proven track record in helping marginalized people.  We have a Board of Directors who have done great things in the community as well a hardworking and knowledgeable staff dedicated to improving our city.  That is more than just one thing, but it is hard to just pick one thing to be proud of when talking about Alliance San Diego.
