AUG0PHSIn the midst of a national debate around racial profiling by police and its deadly consequences, California is taking bold steps forward. Alliance San Diego invites you to join us for our August Power Hour, which will be a forum on understanding and addressing racial profiling.

The forum will provide a space for dialog on how racial profiling affects us here in San Diego and what steps we can take to address it. Minimum wage initiative set for California’s fall ballot

A ballot measure that would increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2021 is headed for the November ballot, elections officials said Tuesday.

The Secretary of State’s Office projected that sponsors of “The Fair Wage Act of 2016” had turned in 423,236 valid voter signatures, more than enough to qualify by random sampling and avoid a complete count.

As two initiatives to raise California’s minimum wage inch closer to the November ballot, business groups have formed a coalition to fight them.

A brand new campaign committee called California Consumers Against Higher Prices is a coalition of a few dozen groups, including the the California Restaurant Association, theCalifornia Hotel and Lodging Association, the California Manufacturers and Technology Association and the Chambers of Commerce in Los Angeles, Fresno and San Diego.

This past Monday, Brown is the New White author Steve Phillips came to Alliance San Diego’s kickoff Power Hour Series to speak about the changing American electorate aka the New American Majority.

Phillips talked about the hard data reflecting the changing American voting patterns especially among people of color. Together as people of color who identify as progressive and white progressives — that those specific demographics comprise 51% of the electorate what Phillips has dubbed the New American Majority. And that New American Majority continues to grow everyday.
