We are excited to announce that Alliance San Diego will help guide California’s outreach for the 2020 federal census! Our Associate Director, Christopher R. Wilson, was recently appointed by State Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins to serve on the California Complete Count Census Committee. Governor Brown also appointed Alliance San Diego board member, Professor Tom Wong, to the 25 member committee. Both will work to ensure our communities get the representation they deserve!

Andrea Guerrero Elected To Help Lead State Efforts to End Racial Profiling By Police

Alliance San Diego Executive Director Andrea Guerrero was recently elected to serve as the co-chair of the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory (RIPA) Board, which advises the Office of the California Attorney General on strategies to eliminate racial and identity profiling and improve racial and identity sensitivity in law enforcement. Guerrero has been a board member since the RIPA board was created in 2016 as part of the Racial and Identity Profiling Act of 2015 (Assembly Bill 953).

After Years of Procrastination, I Finally Decided To Become a US Citizen

As part of our work to assist local immigrant communities, we often hold workshops on DACA assistance, Know Your Rights events and legal immigration screenings. We recently hosted a naturalization workshop where we help people become U.S. citizens. There we had the pleasure of meeting Daniel Quintero, an immigrant from Venezuela who has been living in the U.S. for 14 years. Even though he has qualified to become a naturalized citizen, he was one of many immigrants who often postpone applying for citizenship because they are unfamiliar with the process or simply because they are too busy.
